Pediatric Care

Children’s energy is very strong and pure. And they are extremely sensitive to their environment, whether at home or out in the world at school or attending social activities. When the stresses about them become overwhelming, children can sometimes react with emotional imbalances stemming from feelings of fear or insecurity. These feelings can take the form of what modern Western society refers to as “attention deficit disorders.” Chinese medicine understands and treats the root cause of these emotional issues, using a natural, side effect–free approach.

Asthma
The Lungs are the only organ in direct contact with the external environment. In Chinese medicine this organ is referred to as the “baby organ,” meaning the Lungs are extremely sensitive and vulnerable, and sometimes difficult to treat effectively. Now, imagine the Lungs of a sensitive, vulnerable child! Because the Lungs are responsible for energy distribution throughout the body, they can be especially affected by energy or Qi imbalances. There are a variety of sources with Lung imbalances, including emotions such as persistent sadness or anxiety. Chinese medicine is adept at uncovering the root cause of children’s Lung issues, treating them with an approach that identifies and relieves the disturbance, and rebalances your child’s body—not masking the problem and allowing it to reappear at a later time.

Bedwetting
Chinese medicine understands bedwetting in children as a Kidney function disorder. The Kidney and the Bladder have a close relationship in Chinese medicine theory—they are partner organs of the Water element. This means that any difficulty with one can strongly affect the other. On the surface, this problem seems to be about the Bladder, but its root cause is really Kidney dysfunction. Simply put, the Kidney does not have enough energy to control the Bladder.

So the goal of treatment with this childhood condition is to strengthen the Kidney. This is done with classical herbal therapy as well as moxibustion, a safe and effective traditional healing technique that uses a heated compressed herbal material. While this type of problem is considered difficult to treat in the West, it’s fairly easy to treat with Chinese medicine—usually only one or two Conditions are necessary. An energy deficiency is much easier to treat in a child because their energy is still strong and vibrant. To use a car engine as an analogy, there’s nothing wrong with the engine—the child’s Kidney. It’s still perfectly fine; it just needs a tune-up.
