Prenatal Care
The true specialty of Chinese medicine is prevention. So when it comes to caring for an unborn child, this natural form of medicine begins with the health of the parents—body, mind and spirit—hopefully, well in advance of conception. Chinese medicine has an understanding of health that encompasses the importance of genetic constitution. It views genetic information or life “blueprint” as related to the Kidney organ system. Therefore, all efforts to create the healthiest child possible focus prenatally on the level of Kidney energy or Qi in the expectant mother. There are special teas and classical herbal formulas to accomplish this as well as an entire philosophy of prenatal treatment of the woman, including eating certain foods and lifestyle and emotional “prescriptions,” all with an aim to prevent health problems in the child. Health difficulties in the mother can be passed to the child as part of his or her genetic information. Issues like these can remain dormant throughout the child’s life, or manifest in illness, later when the child is grown, if his or her energy becomes unbalanced and creates an environment for the problem to take root and grow.
Healing Stories
"The reason I feel that TCM was so
helpful throughout my pregnancy was that at each moment I always felt
completely understood. I felt it empowered me to do what I felt was
really natural in order to give birth to my beautiful, healthy
children. Also i believe that my deliveries and recoveries were easier
and quicker because of TCM."
